I read an article by this author in a German newspaper, translated into English by Google. Had never heard of him but the writing was exceptional. There was a mention of this book, a best seller in Germany and elsewhere. Again, I had no idea what to expect other than his writing style and gonzo journalism appealed to me. What a surprise I was in for!

This man is a genuine journalist, interested in uncovering the truth of things and willing to let the reader have insight into his biases. The book is an amazing exploration of Germany today. It explained so much of what we read in the news in surprising ways, through his travels and interviews with people of all walks of life. Truly an astonishing feat! Highly recommend it. Put your preconceived notions aside and travel alongside this fearless writer to learn what it means to be German today.

The desire and hope in Tuvia keep trying to find a beautiful land inhabited by beautiful souls. He looks at it all with gallows humor and a genuine love of people. Tuvia leaves sad. Reality will not change the disappointment.
Very funny person is this Tuvia.
Huge ego, very smart, very cruel, and very funny.
I'm not sure the Germans as seen through this journey are much different from other Europeans, or Americans or Israelis for that matter. The youngsters are dumb and ignorant, the grownups just ignorant, many times by choice.
It's very fun to read, except for German people.
It would have been great, Tuvia, if you went to other countries and report about them too!
Tuvia Tenenbom shows how the typical German is obsessed with the policies Israel, but with no other country. That's what makes most Germans anti-Semitic. Of all the countries, of the world, there are only two that they criticize first Israel, second USA.
Funny, scary, enlightening, horrific, thoughtful and silly. Tuvia Tenenbom has an amazing gift observation. Coupled with his warmth, engagement and ability to ask questions like a sharpshooter he manages to bring things out of his interview partners they themselves did not know. When he draws everything together in his thoughts he builds the most precise analysis of modern day Germany. Political analysts should flare at him in envy or make him there king. But they better bring a Rolls Royce!
The style is somewhat vulgar, but funny in relation to its subject matter. Tenenbom manages to describe simply the Anti-Semitism of the german Society as it is today, partly Nazi, partly Liberal prude and partly Leftist ignorant. The Book encourages you to read and understanding the contemporary European Anti-Semitism. Because the german Anti-Semitism is only an Example of European Anti-Semitism.
This is an interesting (if quirky) travelogue cum sociological assessment of modern Germany and Germans. Part of the assessment is based upon a consideration of whether, as a nation, Germany still harbors deep anti-Semitic feelings. The quirkiness arises from the author melding the analysis of Nazism with an evaluation of the food and wine he consumes while considering the larger question. Further, few attractive women pass unremarked upon while he ponders Nazism and food and wine. His use of vernacular is slightly weird but it does tend to ground the narrative. All in all this is an interesting and provocative work which repays a good reading but for leave as many questions unanswered as those he resolves.
A book that is simultaneously funny, sad, thought provoking and insightful. The author has a special talent for getting people from all walks of society to open up to him. He isn't afraid to ask the hard questions that push through to the uncomfortable underlying truth. The result is an unflinching investigation into German character traits that bred the Third Reich and the Jewish holocaust. Character traits which the author argues persist in modern Germany, and of which antisemitism, both conscious and latent is merely one aspect.

While the antisemitism of old is publicly condemned, thinly disguised antisemitism in it's more fashionable, politically correct forms is widespread. In particular a disproportionate obsession with the Jews "controlling world finance and media" and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Note that the author understands that criticism of Israel is not in itself anti-semitic. Criticism is healthy and no country should be shielded from it. It becomes antisemitic only when it exhibits the double standards, demonization and de-legitimisation that is often manifested in an uncritical, unquestioning acceptance of the pro-Palestinian narrative. In his following book, Catch The Jew, the author investigates reality on the ground in Israel and the Palestinian territories and uncovers widespread German influence.
